Autogenics

AUTOGENIC THERAPY
SELF GENERATED HEALING FOR MIND BODY & SPIRIT

Autogenic Therapy is a self-empowering drug free technique which facilitates both physiological and psychological well-being.
Autogenic Therapy has its roots firmly in medicine and is underpinned by a wealth of medical research from meticulous case studies to large clinical trials. It is taught in Medical School in Germany and is practised world-wide.
Autogenic Therapy is a Systemic Therapy which recognises that the body/mind is a self-healing organism, constantly striving to return to homeostasis and to make whole. (Making whole is the etymological meaning of healing.)

• Is easy to learn and taught in 8 x one hour sessions in approximately that many weeks.

• The cost is simply the training, and once learned Autogenics is a cost free tool for life. The sessions are £75 each.

• Can be practised in every-day situations with short exercises to be done anytime anywhere.

• Enables you to have an active role in your own healing programme.

• Recognises that nobody should have to go through a healing journey alone and offers a short term relationship of care.

HOW AUTOGENIC THERAPY WORKS?
Letting Go is the decisive attitude of Autogenics, and allow us to develop the art of self -awareness and becoming the passive observer. This turns attention inwards to a state of meditative concentration and mindfulness and promotes a healthy mind. Modern Medicine now recognises that a healthy mind is crucial to a healthy body.
Through the Autogenic Formulae/Autosuggestions we can naturally self -direct the innate healing mechanisms of both the body/mind continuum through the parasympathetic response of the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system has two branches, the sympathetic which is the fight and flight stress response, and the parasympathetic response of restore and rebalance.
Through simple exercises you learn how to turn down the stress responses of the Sympathetic Nervous System and turn on the relaxation response of the Parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous system shuts off. Cortisol and adrenaline levels drop. The immune system flips back on. And the body/mind can go about its natural self-repair process.
HISTORY OF AUTOGENIC THERAPY
It was developed at the beginning of last century by Johannes Schultz a Professor of Neuro-psychiatry in Berlin and Wolfgang Luthe who became Assistant Professor of Psychophysiology in Montreal. He also taught Autogenics to physicians at Selye’s Institute of Stress. He wrote six volumes on Autogenic Therapy. In Volume IV Luthe links certain functional changes which occur in the autogenic state with those leading towards a state of ecstasy in certain stages of yoga and similarly with the meditative aspects of Zen Training.

MODERN MEDICINE & AUTOGENIC THERAPY.
In her book ‘MIND OVER MEDICINE’ published in 2013 Dr Lisa Rankin recognises that modern medicine needs to recognise that health also means emotional and mental health which goes beyond the general focus on physical health. She advocates the book ‘The Relaxation Response’ written by Herbert Benson in 1975. When the relaxation response is induced, the parasympathetic, the body’s natural self healing mechanism is in the driver’s seat. Herbert Benson researched Autogenic Therapy as part of this process.
In his book ‘YOU ARE THE PLACEBO’ published in 2014, Dr Joe Dispenza recognises the importance of developing Passive Awareness, developing consciousness and awareness in the present moment. Autogenic Therapy is effectively the Placebo effect.

Janet, after her training in Transpersonal Psychotherapy and Autogenic Therapy, has worked as a full time Systemic Constellation Therapist running workshops and doing individual sessions since 2006. Understanding the echoes of transgenerational trauma within the family lineage has enabled her clients to move on from the unconscious repetition of individual suffering to find immediate and long term healing not just for themselves but for other members of the family system. Janet is author of ‘Psychosis in the Family’ which describes her journey of how and why she became a Constellation Therapist. She is currently writing her 2nd book on the importance of knowing our family histories to heal ourselves. It is due to be published in 2020 and is titled "Untold Family Histories".
